Oh, hi.
Remember me?
I used to blog about food and oftentimes made fun of myself for going long periods of time without posting?
It’s been so long since I updated that I had to Google “How do I log into my WordPress account?” I didn’t post at all in 2021, and before that, it was October 2020 the last time I posted.
I’m sorry.
But I’m back, and I’m back for a good cause!
I’m so excited to participate in the Cookies for Kids Cancer Valentine’s event (again). This is the sixth year for the event and I, along with a cadre of other food bloggers, want to continue to make a difference in the fight against pediatric cancer.
Cancer is the #1 cause of death of children by disease in the U.S, and there are 40,000 U.S. children actively battling cancer right now. The National Cancer Institute’s budget for childhood cancer is less than 4%. It’s such a small number, and that’s why I & my fellow bloggers got involved, because with the ongoing pandemic, children are still being diagnosed with cancer, and it’s imperative that we raise awareness and continue to raise funds to fund the ongoing pediatric cancer research!
Help us make a difference by donating to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer!
Our goal is to raise at least $3,000. Because these three companies: OXO, Mediavine, and Dixie Crystals have each pledged to match our donations raised through this campaign up to $3,000! That means when we raise $1, it turns into $4!
Oftentimes, companies (such as the one I work for!) will match donations, so that $4 could potentially become $8!
Please help us reach our goal so we can get the full matching donations and help us make an even huge difference, and thank you so much to those of you who have already donated!
On to some candy trains!
When I was a kid, my mother made some really cute things for me to take into school for class parties, and these candy trains were a big hit during Christmas. But when my boyfriend, O, pulled a Valentine’s Day flier out of his younger son’s backpack instructing parents to send treats to school, one for each member of his class, and O groaned, I thought the trains would work just as well for Valentine’s Day!
His son (who we affectionally call Thing 2) and I sat down and filled out some Among Us Valentine’s cards, then I set to work making adorable candy trains for the Day of Love (& Candy)!
Candy Trains
Makes 1 train
You’ll need:
- 1 roll of original, hard candy Life Savers (For some reason, I had the MOST trouble finding these. I ended up buying them from Amazon.)
- 1 pack of gum sticks (Weirdly, gum seems to not be sold in the packs of sticks anymore in most places. I found mine at Dollar Tree.)
- 1 Hershey’s kiss
- 3 Hershey’s miniatures, any variety
- 4 Reese’s miniatures
- Glue gun
Glue together the three miniatures, one on top of the other. Set aside.
Glue the Lifesavers on top of the pack of gum.
Glue the miniatures to one end of the Lifesavers.
Glue the Hershey’s kiss on the side of the Lifesavers opposite the miniatures.
Glue a Reese’s to each end of both sides of the gum. (These can sometimes be tricky to glue. You might need to go back later and check to make sure they don’t need more glue.)
Finally, enjoy all of the compliments on your adorable trains. (According to O, Thing 2 was “the hit of the class”!)
Happy Valentine’s Day, and please consider donating to C4KC. It’s a great cause! Also, check out the other bloggers participating in this event and see the gorgeous Valentine’s Day-themed creations they’ve made.
